Burglar pleads guilty

A man who committed a burglary in Shepton Mallet and stole a car is set to be sentenced next month. He has pleaded guilty to a number of crimes.
George Jones, 22, entered a property in Cornwall Road, Shepton Mallet, during the morning of Saturday 14 October. He stole a quantity of cash, clothing, mobile phones and a car key. He then used the car keys to drive off with the victim’s car.
Jones was spotted driving the stolen vehicle in Shepton Mallet on Friday 20 October, leading to his arrest.
He was charged with one count of burglary, theft of a motor vehicle. He was also charged with two counts each of driving the stolen vehicle without insurance or a licence authorising use of that car. He pleaded guilty at Taunton Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Monday 23 October).
Jones, of no fixed address, also pleaded guilty to two unrelated thefts. These happened in Glastonbury on Tuesday 26 September. These were the theft of a handbag containing cash, as well as shoplifting alcohol from a store.
