Police seek witnesses to M5 accident

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after an accident closed the M5 yesterday (Monday 28 August). The accident happened at around 7.20pm when a trailer carrying straw bales overturned. The incident happened on the northbound carriageway between junctions 26 (Wellington) and 25 (Taunton).

Motorists faced disruption following the incident which forced Police to close the M5 in both directions. The motorway was closed for about an hour to ensure people were safe and to clear the debris.

Police say they believe there were three people in the blue Kia Sorento car that was towing the trailer at the time. However two of them fled the scene prior before the police arrived. They were described as white males, in their 30s, of a large build and with facial hair.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

Police believe there may have been people who took video footage of the occupants who left the scene> They ask anyone with relevant footage to please get in touch.
