A36 closed after plane hits power lines

The A36 has been fully closed this afternoon between the A361 (Beckington) and A366 (Farleigh Hungerford) junctions. This follows an incident in which a light aircraft collided with power lines.

The Leveller understands that the A366 is also closed heading to Norton St Philip.

The incident happened at around 2.10pm and caused a fire which is now under control. No-one has been injured. A number of houses in the area have lost power.

Avon and Somerset Police are leading the incident, the fire service are also attending. Please note that the road is expected to be closed through the afternoon and evening peak.

Clearly signed diversion routes are in place. National Highways is advising drivers to plan their journeys and find alternate routes while the closure remains.
