Police appeal after Yeovil incident

Avon & Somerset Police are appealing to the public for witnesses after an incident in Yeovil on Saturday 20 August.
Officers were called to Lufton Way at about 8.25pm after a man was threatened and forced into a vehicle. Witnesses said the assailant had a firearm. However Police have since confirmed that a weapon wasn’t fired during the incident.
Officers searched for the man both on the ground and with support from the National Police Air Service helicopter.
The initial searches for him were unsuccessful. Following a call at about 00.05am on Monday morning they were able to trace him. He subsequently went to hospital but none of his injuries are considered life threatening.
Enquiries are continuing into the initial incident. Police are speaking to witnesses and collecting CCTV footage. They are particularly keen to hear from any motorists who may have been driving in that part of Yeovil on Sunday evening.
They are anxious to trace the movements of a silver Volkswagen Golf registration number YA69 OVC. The vehicle has since been recovered and is being forensically examined.

Police are keen to reassure people that they believe this to be an isolated incident. However extra high-visibility patrols are taking place to reassure local residents.
