Roadworks in Wells next week

Somerset Council’s Highways team will be installing new traffic signals in Wells next week. Starting on Monday 15 May the roadworks will be on both the Wookey Hole Road and Whiting Way junctions (near to Waitrose). Temporary traffic signals will be in place throughout. The contractor will be using state of the art technology known as Urban 64 to ensure traffic flows are managed effectively. This is intended to minimise delays.

This will not come as a surprise to Wells residents. Although we only have 3 days notice of the roadworks, the council say they have been in conversation with local people “for some time”.

The roadworks will continue through the summer and are due to be completed in the Autumn. Somerset Council say they will take special measures during Glastonbury Festival in June. This will involve ensuring extra traffic flows can be managed to avoid disruption for locals and festival goers alike.

There will need to be some works carried out at night towards the end of the project. Somerset Council told The Leveller that residents will receive letters ahead of this with full details.

The roadworks are the next stage of a £16.6m signals replacement programme across Somerset.
