Engineering works at Castle Cary

GWR today said that engineering works will take place at Castle Cary from Sunday 30 April to Wednesday 3 May. During this period there will be no trains between Taunton and London going through Castle Cary. Trains between London and the south west will use a different route between Reading and Taunton. DWR do plan to run some trains between London Paddington and Westbury.

However passengers should note that trains running to/from Weymouth will be able to stop at Castle Cary station.

For those travelling between London and the south west via Taunton, buses will replace trains between:

  • Castle Cary and Taunton
  • Castle Cary and Westbury (non-stop and stopping at all stations)

The Network Rail engineering work taking place consists of bridge and structural maintenance as well as drainage work. This is to ensure the safety of what GWR describe as “this key route for the south west.”

GWR warn that the parking situation has still not been resolved. They say: “Those driving to a station should note that parking remains very limited at Castle Cary as work continues to deliver a new station car park.

  • I moved here in 2014 when there was already ‘work taking place on station parking at Castle Cary’. It has steadily got worse & now looks as though some of the land is being developed as well. It would be nice to know the current number of spaces (far fewer than before) vs what will be available. I have never risked taking the train to London in case there was no parking available. The road has no parking cones, so nowhere nearby. Glastonbury should be fun😱
