A giant screen will be put up on Castle Green for people will be able to watch the Coronation on Saturday 6 Then the Coronation Concert which will be live streamed from Windsor Castle on Sunday 7 May.

The event will be free with funding provided by the two councils. It is taking place in the heart of our county town. The Museum of Somerset, The Castle Hotel and the Municipal Buildings will create a perfect historical backdrop to the celebrations.

You are invited to bring picnics and your very best singing voices to join in with the festivities. The town centre will be decorated with red, white and blue planters and hanging baskets. The plants all provided from Somerset Council’s own nursery.

The Coronation celebrations will run throughout the weekend with a community stage featuring a programme of entertainment. Local bands and performers have been booked for the festivities.

Somerset Council has been lucky enough to receive grant funding from Music for Youth a charity working with the under 25s. Collaborating with the Sound Foundation Somerset and Somerset Music the aim is to deliver the weekend-long musical festival.

Taunton’s Vivasyt park will play its part too. Youth groups and traditional brass bands will perform on the bandstand in the park. This will act as the launch of the annual season of weekend performances. Which is appropriate really as in 1902 an oak tree was planted close to the bandstand to mark the coronation of Edward VII.
