£10m of Government money for Bridgwater

A long line of “Levelling up” awards were announced by the Westminster Government this lunchtime. Among them was one award for Somerset, a contribution of £10m for roundabout works in Bridgwater.

Specifically the money is for:

  • improvements at the Dunball roundabout on the A38 on the northern edge of Bridgwater
  • Improvements at the Cross Rifles roundabout where the A38 and A39 meet near the town centre

The money is also to help promote active travel. This will see the extension and improvement of walking and cycle routes around the roundabouts. It will including signal-controlled crossing points.

The investment is expected to:

  • provide better employment opportunities to local people through improved journey times and access to the town
  • create additional capacity for traffic, cutting journey times and congestion
  • boost the transport connectivity in and around Bridgwater
