Pedestrian death closes M5 this morning

The M5 was closed this morning following the death of a pedestrian. Avon & Somerset Police were called to the incident at around 8am. A pedestrian fell from a bridge over the motorway between the Taunton Junction (25) and Wellington Junction (26).

The M5 northbound was opened at around noon. The southbound carriageway was still closed at 2.30pm this afternoon.

The pedestrian, a 58 year old man, was hit by at least two vehicles and sadly died at the scene. The man’s next of kin has been informed. His family are being supported by a specially trained officer.

Avon & Somerset Police are now appealing to the public for witnesses to come forward. Were you travelling along the M% between junctions 25 and Junction 26 at the time of the incident? Were you on the Honiton Road, especially at the point where it crosses the M5 at the time? Did you see a male pedestrian on or near the bridge at the time?
