GWR strike updates

GWR has announced the timetable it will operate during the next series of rail strikes. In general terms they say that on strike days (13-14 and 16-17 December; 3-4 and 6-7 January) only an extremely reduced service will operate. And this will be on a limited number of routes. Some parts of the GWR network will have no service at all. Services will start later (07:30) and all journeys must be completed by 18:30.Ā

Looking specifically at Somerset services on strike days, no trains will run from Frome, Castle Cary, Bruton or Yeovil Penn Mill.

A limited service will run between Bristol Temple Meads and Plymouth (GWR say they are aiming for an hourly service). We understand this should call at Highbridge, Bridgwater and Taunton. But we are also told you should double check before travelling.

A service will also run from Bristol Temple Meads to London, so it may be possible to get from Somerset to London. However trains are expected to be infrequent and very crowded. the firm advice is do not travel unless you have to.

GWR also warn that there will be a very limited service between strike days, and no service at all on 25 and 26 December. Again you are urged not to travel unless necessary and to check train timetables before you travel. Services that do run are expected to be very crowded.
