A39 road closures

Somerset County Council’s (SCC) Highways team will be carrying out resurfacing of the A39 in Walton, just to the west of Street. The road surface is showing significant signs of wear and tear. SCC say it needs repairing as soon as possible to avoid further serious deterioration.

The work will be carries out between 21 November and 2 December. The section of the road to be resurfaced runs from Bath Road to Main Street. This section will be closed 6.30pm to 7.30am Monday to Friday during these dates. A diversion will be put in place.

SCC tell us that access will be maintained for residents and businesses in the immediate area. The road will be open at weekends and during the daytime. The work is being carried out at night to minimise disruption. However SCC say a full closure is required in order to deliver the scheme.

Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset County Council’s Executive Lead Member for Transport and Digital said: “It’s vital we get this work done to ensure the road surface does not deteriorate further. We have been able to fit this difficult scheme on a busy road into our maintenance schedule at a time when we believe it will have the least impact – after Carnival season and before the Christmas season.”
