SWR statement on strikes

As we noted on Friday, the RMT have suspended the strike action planned for this week. The RMT said that “We express our deepest condolences to her family, friends and the country“. (SWR) welcomed the decision. This means that normal services on the line From Exeter to Waterloo should run as normal. This will benefit Somerset passengers using Crewkerne, Yeovil Junction and Templecombe.
SWR said in a statement that it “plans to reinstate a normal service for the days which would have been affected by the strikes.” However there is a caveat. They say they are still working through what further changes might be required. This being to accommodate preparations to help the nation commemorate Her Late Majesty.
They also note that they are not yet able to confirm the timetable for the day of Her Late Majesty’s funeral. That has been set for Monday 19 September.
In the meantime, for the next week at least customers should check the latest travel news before they travel. You can do this at: https://www.southwesternrailway.com/plan-my-journey
Don’t forget that the timetable has already been revised to account for a temporary speed restriction between Tisbury and Gillingham advertised as lasting to the end of October, so I’m not sure what timetable “normal service” means.
