Did you see Bridgwater altercation?

Yesterday (Sunday 29 May) a 20-year-old man was assaulted at a taxi rank in Bridgwater. Mondli Khumalo is a South African national. He has been staying in the North Petherton area to play cricket for the local club.

The incident happened at around 3am. It was near the Green Dragon pub in the Friarn Street area, and involved a large number of people.

Mondli was rushed to hospital and is undergoing treatment after suffering serious head injuries. He remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital. Avon & Somerset Police say they are taking steps to ensure Mondli’s family in South Africa are being kept updated.

Police have arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He’s been interviewed and released under investigation so Police can carry out further enquiries. A full investigation is under way and Police have carried out house-to-house enquiries. They continue to review CCTV footage from around the area, to ensure they gather all available evidence.
