Night closures on A303
National Highways will be carrying out repairs on the A303 starting from Monday night, 14 March. The road closure will be between the Southfields roundabout outside Ilminster and the A30 junction west of Newcott. The work involves surface and pothole repairs to help to ensure safe journeys for motorists. Drainage maintenance, vegetation clearance and sign repairs will also be carried out. The idea is to reduce the need for future closures along the road by doing as many jobs as possible at one.
The A303 will be closed from 8pm to 4am, with locally signed diversions in place via Stockland Hill and the A35. During the day the road will be open as usual.
National Highways say they will try to ensure the noisiest works will be completed before 11pm. Access for residents will be maintained but may involve a short delay depending on the stage of work.
Unfortunately Somerset County Council have scheduled a closure of the A358 at Hatch Beauchamp from 16 March. These roadworks will last for 13 nights. The A358 comes off the Southfields roundabout and connects to the M5. Having both roads closed at the same time is unfortunate to say the least.
Both National Highways and the council say they will work together to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum. However many will wonder why the two organisations could not co-ordinate their work better in the first place.
