Iaero launch

The Leveller spent this morning (22 February) in Yeovil to watch the ribbon cutting at the new Iaero facility on the edge of the Leonardo facility in the town. It was perhaps not surprising, given the Ukraine crisis, that no-one from the MoD was able to attend.

However others were on hand for the launch of the new facility: local MP Marcus Fysh, MD of Leonardo Nick Whitney, and Karl Tucker, chair of the Heart of the South West LEP. The £10m facility is a joint venture between Somerset County Council, Government’s Local Growth Fund as part of the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership’s Growth Deal and the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme .

Cllr David Hall SCC Cabinet member for Economic Development, Planning and Community Infrastructure, noted: “iAero plays a key part in our innovation portfolio to support key Somerset industries and sectors. It will support aerospace. The Energy Innovation Centre at Bridgwater supports the nuclear and low carbon industries. Meanwhile the Digital Innovation Centre under construction in Taunton, will support the county’s fast-growing digital economy.”

Marcus Fysh MP cut the ribbon declaring the facility open.
