Double murder in Norton Fitzwarren
Avon & Somerset Police have launched a murder enquiry.
Police were called to Dragon Rise in Norton Fitzwarren at 9.45pm last night 21 November. A man and a woman, both aged in their 30s, were found inside with serious injuries.
Despite the efforts of officers and medics, they were sadly both pronounced dead at the scene.
Two men, aged 34 and 67, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. They are currently in custody for questioning.
A cordon remains in place around two properties on Dragon Rise. Police are conducting a forensic examination of the scene.
A formal identification process is underway. Post-mortem examinations to determine the causes of death will take place in due course.
Due to prior police contact with those involved, a mandatory referral will be made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. Police tell us it would be inappropriate to go into further detail until the referral has been considered.
Detective Inspector Neil Meade, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “The thoughts of everyone in the force this morning are with the families of the two people who sadly died last night.”
Police have also said that two young children were inside the property at the time of the incident. Thankfully they weren’t hurt, however they are understandably distressed at what has happened.
The children are being looked after. Specially trained officers have been deployed to support the victim’s families in what is undoubtedly the most difficult of times.
Police believe that this was an isolated incident. However to reassure the public there will be increased police activity in the area.
