New leader for Somerset CC LibDems

The LibDems have moved to change the leader of their party at Somerset County Council. Timing is everything with a new unitary council in the offing and elections probably held next May. The LibDems have moved to get a new Leader, “bedded in” before the elections are due.

The Leveller® understands that new leader will be Bill Revans. Cllr Revans, a history teacher, lives in North Petherton and is both a Sedgemoor District Councillor as well as a County Councillor. He replaces outgoing Leader Jane Lock.

At the 2017 elections for the county council the LibDems formed the opposition winning 12 seats to the Conservatives 35. Cllr Revans won his North Petherton seat comfortably with 1,435 votes to 1,187 for Conservative Richard Brown.

That said with a new council, incorporating districts and county into one, the picture could look very different. With probably around 100 seats to fight for, the next elections are up for grabs.
