Roadworks on A39 – advance notice
Somerset County Council (SCC) are giving us advance notice of roadworks to be carried out in August. They will be resurfacing the Hartlake Straight on the A39 Wells Road next month. This is the stretch of road from the edge of Glastonbury at the Tin Bridge roundabout through to Polsham.
The road is raised above the Levels here and has been steadily declining. It now needs major repair. SCC say the roadworks will be carried out from Monday 16 August to Friday 27 August. Unfortunately it will need a 24/7 road closure for the duration of the works. This is “to ensure the safety of the workforce and public.”
A diversion will be in place. Past experience of these diversion is that they are not well signposted and often involve very significant detours. Local people may want to plan well ahead and find their own routes!
SCC will meet their legal obligations and say that access to households and businesses in the area will be maintained. The Highways team will liaise closely with those in the immediate area of the works. Deliveries and access will be accommodated through on-site operational staff. Every effort will be made to keep the duration of the works to a minimum.
