GWR cancellations run into Sunday 9 may
Earlier today we reported on cancellation son GWR’s mainline services to the West Country from Paddington. This is due to cracks appearing in some of their Hitachi trains. The units have been withdrawn from service for safety checks.
Meanwhile services from Paddington to and from Bristol and Bath and via Castle Cary and Taunton to Devon and Cornwall are all subject to cancellation tomorrow (Sunday 9 May). Delays and cancellations are expected to run into next week.
GWR advise that local services are running, but are expected to be very busy. This means services to and from Bridgwater and Highbridge could be very full.
We are told that rail replacement services are extremely limited. Customers are advised not to travel on Sunday 9 May and refunds will be provided.
In a statement GWR told us “The problem continues to be investigated by Hitachi. Once trains have been checked and cleared, we hope to be able to release them back into service as soon as possible. A further update will be provided in due course.”
