Fatal collision Bridgwater

Avon & Somerset Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a fatal collision in Bridgwater. The incident happened this morning on the A39. The Police have yet to confirm which bit of the A39.

What they have told us is that the incident took place just before 11am this morning, Wednesday 7 April. A black Vauxhall Corsa was in a collision with a man riding a bicycle. The road remains closed while collision investigators examine the scene.

We are sorry to report that the cyclist died at the scene. The deceased has not yet been formally identified. However the Police tell us he was a man in his 40s. His next of kin have been made aware and will be supported by a specially-trained family liaison officer.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug driving. He remains in police custody.
