Langport to Ilminster road to close
Somerset County Council’s highways teams are going to start work on a drainage scheme in Barrington. The B3168 Puckington Road at Barrington will be closed for 19 days from the 6 to 30 of April. This is the main road people use to get from Ilminster to Langport. It is also used by school buses for Holyrood and Huish Academy
So planning the work to coincide with the Easter break makes sense. But it is a pity they didn’t manage to schedule the work during lockdown when the road would be much quieter.
The road will be closed to all traffic during these dates, except for residents within the closure area. A signed diversion route will be in place. Anyone who knows the roads in the area will not be relishing that prospect. It will either be a 20/30 mile diversion, or through some very narrow winding lanes.
Another important drainage scheme will on the B3168 will then follow. The second scheme, on the B3168 Ilford Bridges Road at Ilton gets underway on 4 May for 15 Days. The road needs to close to all traffic until 19 May. Access will be maintained throughout for residents within the closure. Again, a signed diversion route will be in place.
The work will improve drainage on the roads, which are part of the county’s precautionary gritting network. SCC note that both works will understandably cause some disruption. However they insist it’s crucial the work is done to ensure the safety of road users.
