Frome petition gets 100’s of signatures

An online petition to save EastHill Field in Frome from development has gathered more than 700 signatures. And that’s in just five days. The petition was launched by the Friends of Easthill Field on 18th February. It urges Mendip District Council (MDC) to remove Easthill from their housing development plan in perpetuity. It asks that they commission a full Environmental Impact Assessment. Finally it requests MDC transfer the land to Frome Town Council to safeguard it for the community.

MDC had planned to use Easthill Field as a major part of their new social housing programme. They had intended to build 75 homes on the field. That is more than half of the total homes planned.

Helen Deeming from the Friends of Easthill Field wants action taken. She says “We are grateful to Mendip District Council for the pause in their current plans for Easthill Field. But we need to turn the pause into a full stop. We are facing a global climate and ecological crisis with catastrophic loss of biodiversity.”

The petition is available at https://www.change.org/Save-EASTHILL-Field-NOW and on the Facebook page Friends of Easthill Field.
