Attempted theft from child, Yeovil

Yesterday (21 January) a 10-year-old girl was accosted in Yeovil. She was walking along the footpath between Carisbrooke Gardens and Swallowcliffe Gardens. it was around 8.10 in the morning. An unknown man approached her and grabbed her arm. Police believe he was attempting to steal her phone.

The girl kicked out at him. he was forced to let go and she ran into the school. She immediately told staff what had happened. PC Hannah Barczynska told us: “The girl did absolutely the right thing in seeking assistance from an appropriate adult and the matter being reported to us.”

Her assailant is described as approximately 25-30 years old, 6ft tall with short dark hair. He was wearing a blue T-shirt and black trousers or jeans.

The Police are keen to reassure parents. PC Barczynska again: “We’d like to reassure parents we’ve not been made aware of any similar incidents involving a child. However, as a precaution, the neighbourhood policing team will be conducting additional patrols in the area.”
