New COVID initiative avoids Somerset
From this morning a new initiative saw pharmacies across the South West delivering COVID 19 vaccinations. This is all part of the national drive to get as many people as possible vaccinated as fast as possible. Safety is of course paramount. Pharmacy teams have increased their workforce and adjusted their layout to ensure social distancing can be adhered to on site. Those pharmacies that don’t have enough space inside their premises will be delivering the vaccine off site.
This move will see the vaccination being offered on local High Streets across the South West, but not in Somerset. South West pharmacies delivering the vaccine from today include:
- Superdrug, Broadmead, Bristol.
- Wallisdown Pharmacy, Wallisdown Road, Poole.
- Locking Pharmacy, Locking, Weston-Super-Mare. Delivering vaccine from The Radio Wing, McCrae Road.
- Boots Pharmacy, Eastgate Street, Gloucester.
- The Grove Pharmacy, Christchurch Hospital, Christchurch.
Of course more are planned. It is hoped that up to 200 new sites will be up and running by the end of the month. Nonetheless it is disappointing to see nothing in the Somerset County Council area. This is after all, the largest co-ordinated vaccination programme in the history of the NHS. More pharmacies will go live throughout January in the South West and it is hoped 200 sites will be offering the vaccine nationally by the end of the month.
Hopefully a few in our area too.
