Somerton and Wellington postal delays

The Royal mail today revealed a list of 27 English postcode areas hit by COVID 19. Two of them are in Somerset. TA11 which covers Somerton and the area around it is one. the other is the Wellington TA21 postcode.

In a statement Royal Mail said: “Despite our best efforts and significant investment in extra resource, some customers may experience slightly longer delivery timescales than our usual service standards. This is due to the exceptionally high volumes we are seeing, exacerbated by the coronavirus-related measures we have put in place in local mail centres and delivery offices to keep our people and customers safe.”

However The Leveller understands that postal workers being sick or self isolating is a large part of the reason. Speaking for the Government, Nadhim Zahawi pledged to work with Royal Mail to ensure that vaccine invitations were prioritised. Zahawi is the covid vaccine deployment minister.

Meanwhile if you live in Somerton or Wellington Royal Mail says deliveries are likely to be limited. Though precisely what that means is unclear.
