Award for helping Yeovil’s homeless
On Tuesday night (10 November) the High Sheriff of Somerset went to the bandstand at Yeovil to greet Iona White. For the last two years Iona has taken her van down to the same spot in Yeovil. She loads up with warm cloths, sleeping bags and home prepared food to give to the town’s homeless. In 2 years she hasn’t missed a Tuesday come rain, hail or shine.
Her determination to help the less fortunate during lockdown is admirable. Especially at a time when they needed support more than ever. Mary Clare Rodwell, High Sheriff of Somerset, was so impressed that she went to see for herself.
Oh yes, and to present Iona with a High Sheriff’s Award for her work. Iona was cheered by some of her “regulars” as she was given the award.
We’ll have a much fuller report in the January edition of The Leveller.
