The Unite Union and local constituents of Ian Liddell Grainger are gathering at noon today to protest at the treatment of employees of British Airways. A socially distanced protest has been arranged for outside the offices of the Bridgwater & West Somerset MP.
The Union claims that BA intend to fire the workforce and rehire the smaller number they will need for the future, on inferior contracts. If this is what the company really do have in mind, it would be illegal under UK employment law.
MPs from across the political spectrum have been asking for a review of landing and take-off slots in response to BA’s project fire and rehire. Over 200 MPs from all parties have signed a pledge calling for government action. The local union branch notes “constituents want to see action from Ian Liddell-Grainger, other MPs are already calling for a review of landing and take-off slots in response to BA’s project fire and rehire. Why isn’t Ian Liddell-Grainger? “
