M&Co Frome to close
M&Co the Scottish based clothing chain has announced 47 stores will close. The company was already in administration as it tried to sort out a survival plan with administrators, Deloitte.
The plan will see 215 stores remain open but the 47 due to cloase are mostly in towns and in rural areas.
The Frome branch is included on the list of 47 due to close. The branch was one of the larger retailers in the Westway Centre. A total of 380 staff across the UK will be made redundant The Leveller® understands.
The chain has always had a mix of product lines including men’s and women’s fashion & homewares, with special teen and petite-sized lines. It does seem that retailers like this who have not specialised, are suffering more during the current recession.
For now the branches in Wells and Minehead appear to be safe and will carry on trading.
