Bridgwater Independent Custody Visitors

Independent Custody Visiting is an important activity under the auspices of the Avon & Somerset Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC). Today they are looking for people from Bridgwater and the surrounding area to join the team.

This is a really important role in auditing the way the Police are involved with detaining and holding suspects. Independent Custody Visitora are responsible for visiting Bridgwater Police Centre Custody Unit unannounced. They check on the welfare of those in police custody by talking to detained people and possibly viewing computerised records and CCTV. They are there to ensure detainees rights and entitlements are being observed. Custody Visitors always visit custody in pairs.
