CLT launches fund at AGM
Somerset Co-op Community Land Trust’s Annual General Meeting will take place online on Tuesday 30th June at 2pm via Zoom.
As well as the usual financial accounts and board elections, the CLT will liven thing sup with the launch of a new community share offer. There are two new projects that they’d like to get involved with if they can raise sufficient money. The first in Wiveliscombe is a result of the CLT securing an “option to buy” agreement on the site of a
disused brewery in Wiveliscombe. Part of the funds from the upcoming share offer will go towards the purchase and initial site investigations for this project. The CLT is currently working with architects to get a good plan together that will mix work units with more affordable and eco-friendly homes.
The second project is already quite a long way along the road. A planning application was recently submitted to Somerset West & Taunton Council for a development at a distinctive 18th century terrace on East Reach, Taunton. These plans include a community meeting room, flats for single people, and a community gardening project in the gardens. The CLT say this will be an important opportunity to trial the use of sustainable building methods to create low-cost, unsubsidised housing, and they are actively pursuing other sites on which the most successful techniques can be reproduced on a larger scale.
