2nd motorcycle fatality in Somerset in a week

Yesterday afternoon at around 3.20pm a motorcyclist was killed near Cannington. The motorcycle left the road and crashed into a car servicing building at Cannington Grain. The motorclist, a male, died at the scene.

The police have released no further details of the victim. This is the second fatal accident involving a motorbike leaving the road within the week. The previous incident was near Cranmore.

There is an article in the April Leveller® looking at the level of road deaths in Somerset. We would urge everyone to drive carefully. Certainly there is much less traffic on the roads than usual, but that does not mean the roads are any safer or you can get away with less concentration while driving.

Returning to the incident from yesterday, the road between Cannington and Hinkley C was closed. That was to allow collision investigators to carry out a detailed examination of the scene. Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to contact us.
