SW&T paying out too
Somerset West & Taunton have als0 been paying out significant sums in grants to support local businesses in the district.
The grants range from £10,000 to £25,000 to support small business and those companies operating in the retail, hospitality and leisure sector. Council staff have been working over the weekend to ensure claims get processed as rapidly as possible.
SW&T report that over 1,800 businesses have applied for help and over 800 businesses have so far been paid. That means a total of £9.7m has been paid out so far. The vast majority (just over £6m) has been in small business grants of £10,000 for those businesses eligible for Small Business Rate Relief or Rural Rate Relief.
In total SW&T has been allocated £38.78m by central government though of course each council can pay out more from its own resources if it wishes to.
