County to close all libraries

Somerset County Council told us this morning that it will be “moving into business continuity mode and will be taking a number of steps to keep services running while minimising the spread of the virus.”

This means, from tomorrow (19 March), most council buildings will be closed, public meetings and events will be postponed or moved online, and office-based staff will be working from home. This follows similar decisions taken by Mendip and Sedgemoor Councils.

Libraries will be closing. So if you need to get a copy of The Leveller from your local library – you need to do that today!

Other areas, like registration services, will be by appointment only.

SCC have said that frontline services, such as adults and children’s social care, highways maintenance and our Somerset Direct Contact Centre, will support the public as normal.
