SW Railways strike in December

The RMT union will carry out industrial action from the 2nd to 20th December on the network run by South West Railways (SWR). Today SWR published the timetable they aim to run during the industrial action which you can access here

In Somerset the main stations to be impacted will be Templecombe, Yeovil Junction and Crewkerne.

An SWR spokesperson explained “We know this strike will make travelling more difficult and services will be busier than normal. We plan to run more than half of our normal Monday-Friday services and will provide longer trains in order to increase capacity wherever possible. Customers can expect a similar number of peak services to previous strikes. However, they should be aware that last services will be earlier than normal.”

The industrial action is about the use of guards on the SWR trains and both sides are currently insisting the other is to blame.

SWR upped the anti by blaming a lack of service on election day firmly on the Union. They claimed “While the RMT Union has informed SWR that they will not be striking on 12 December, owing to the prolonged nature of the strike it will not be possible to provide trains and crews in the correct locations to operate a normal timetable. As a result, there will also be an amended timetable on that day.”
