Future of Heaven’s Gate at risk

On Monday staff at Heaven’s Gate were told it may have to close. The centre run by National Animal Welfare Trust at Henley just outside High Ham employs 31 local people.

The Board of Trustees of NAWT have concluded that in order to ensure the future survival of the charity as a whole, they are proposing to close the Heaven’s Gate
Centre.

A formal consultation process with the employees has been started. All are thought to be at risk of redundancy.

Caron Lane, Centre Manager told us “my team at the centre have taken the difficult decision to cancel our Family Fun Day & Fun Dog Show this Sunday (September 8). Although we recognise it is an important fundraising event for the centre, it would be difficult to hold such an event under these circumstances. We apologise for the short notice.”

The Trust are blaming a number of things for the downturn in their fortunes. These include the impact of the national living wage, a downturn in legacies and Brexit.

There is as yet no mention of what will happen to the animals if the centre has to close.

O no. That is not right . We had fluffy our cat from there she is so good wish we could get another cat but we were told that dhe didn’t mix with other cat. If she did we would have another. Sorry to hear off your problem. Mrs Christine Ann Baker. Lanport
