Somerton School – next instalment

In Somerset the usual planning authority is the District Council.

But what if you are planning to build a school?

What if the District Council, despite having been involved in negotiations and arrangements, suddenly recommended refusal of your planning application?

Simple. As the County Council is also a planning authority for some matters, you ignore the District Council and send the application to your own Regulation Committee.

And this is what has happened to the application for Somerton School after South Somerset District Council planners recommended refusal of the plans to build a new school in the town. Rather than run the gauntlet of watching SSDC turn down their application, Somerset County Council withdrew it.

Why?

Somerset County Council will put the whole matter before their own regulation committee on Thursday 18th July. The meeting starts at 10am in the meeting room at Taunton Library.

The public can attend and there is a chance for public questions before the meeting.
