Discovery funds community awards

Discovery took over  the contract to provide adult learning disability and autism services in Somerset from the County Council (SCC) in April 2017. Like many organisations that have taken over local government services, Discovery is a charity formed for the purpose. Whilst it has reduced the cost of the service for SCC the performance of the charity has proved controversial.

So now some better, happier news about Discovery will be welcome. Discovery have just announced a series of grants from the Discovery Community Fund have been awarded to seven community groups, totalling just shy of £90,000. The groups to benefit are:

The Angel, run by the Langport Church Community Trust: £2,870

Calvert Trust Exmoor: £10,000 (photo)

Dunster Festival, delivering classical music to the Seahorses Day Centre in Minehead: £684

Open storytellers in Frome: £20,320

Orchard Vale Trust county-wide: £15,651

People First Dorset in Crewkerne and Chard: £29,985

The Pod in Frome: £7,500

The funding will be welcome by all the recipients and its good to see Discovery in the news for all the right reasons…..
