Ilminster Entertainment Society

There is plenty of evidence was needed that theatre is alive and well in Somerset. We have only recently seen a £48,000 grant given to the Brewhouse from Arts Council England). And now the Ilminster Entertainment Society are getting in on the act. Just the one act mind you. The theatre group who are based at the Warehouse Theatre in Ilminster entered the All England Theatre Festival. This is a competition for one act plays that goes through several regional layers before the grand final at the Norden Farm Centre for the Arts in Maidenhead on the 8th June.

Entering a one act play titled A Resounding Tinkle by N.F. Simpson they got all the way to the semi finals held at the Merlin Theatre Frome. And they just missed out on a place in the final. Only just mind you. Their performance won them The Stanley & Madge Williams Shield, an award given at the adjudicators discretion for technical achievement in their production. The overall winner Bench Theatre for A Dangerous Woman by Paul King now progress to the national final.

But well done Ilminster for getting that far and flying the flag for Somerset.
