SSDC Moving House

One of the problems of accessing South Somerset District Council has always been a suite of offices on the outskirts of town, not linked by public transport and not easily walkable from Yeovil town centre.
The Brympton Way Headquarters almost appear to have been designed to keep the public and their pesky questions at bay.
But no longer. SSDC have recognised (a little belatedly – but better late than never) the issue.
From 20th May, their “Customer Focussed Officers” in other words the team that deals most directly with the public will be moving. The new office suite at Petters House office is located in Yeovil’s town centre on Petters Way by the library and the Hendford car park.
Not only will this make them easier to reach, it will also mean that the housing, Council Tax and benefits experts will all be in one place, ready to assist the most vulnerable or in need.
A genuine improvement for all who need to use their services.
“The new office suite at Petters House office is located in Yeovil’s town centre on Petters Way by the library and the Hendford car park.” No it isn’t. Petters House is near the Octagon Theatre, right at the end of the road going past the Magistrates’ Court. It is not near the Library or Hendford Car Park. It is not the centre of the Town. And it is a horrible old 1970s office block that is a blot on the Yeovil landscape as with much else. Anyone with a disability will not find access easy. SSDC ‘customers’ will have to pay to park in the nearby Petters Way car park. At least at Brympton Way parking is free for a limited period.
Correction to previous post. Petters House is not past the Magistrates’ Court – it is opposite. But still not near the Library or Hendford Car Park. No free parking nearby. Not the Town centre.
