Adult Social Care in Somerset

Regular readers of The Leveller will be well aware of the trials and tribulations of providing adult social care under the guidance of Somerset County Council. SCC have now taken something of a risk by getting involved with the BBC to produce two hour long programmes looking at the issue of pressure on social care services. Somerset has been the focus of our own reporting, but this is very much a national issue as the population ages, and the need becomes ever clearer to set out a national plan to sustainably fund care in the long-term.
Politicians in Westminster have been ducking the issue for nearly two decades. We haven’t seen any previews of the BBC programme, SCC are taking a bold step by being involved and deserve some credit for taking that step.
The two, hour-long films by the BBC’s Panorama team, are scheduled to be broadcast on BBC1 at 9pm Wednesday 29th May and 5th June.
