Babies Memorial Garden Opening

Last year we reported on the idea of a Babies Memorial Garden, an initiative from Musgrove Park Hospital. The idea was to set aside a small wooded glade in Taunton Deane Cemetery for the burial of babies lost through miscarriage or at an early stage of pregnancy and the cremated remains of very young babies may also be buried here. The garden allows a quiet space for grieving and contemplation and grieving.
Following on from that idea and building on it, a new babies’ memorial garden at Taunton Deane Crematorium will be officially opened today. Work has been carried out to compliment, modernise and extend the existing garden, making it accessible for everyone to pay tribute to a lost child, regardless of where they may have been laid to rest.
The Mayor of Taunton Deane, Cllr Catherine Herbert, will officially open the garden at 2.30pm, followed by the release of doves and a short remembrance service with poems and readings suitable for all.
