Appeal following sexual assault in Shepton Mallet

Avon & Somerset Police have issued a description of a man they’d like to identify following an incident in Shepton Mallet where a jogger was sexually assaulted. The young woman was jogging along Dark Lane at around 7.15pm on Friday 31st Augusy when she was grabbed by a man. The woman managed to fight the man off and was able to give the police a description. He is described as white, slim, in his thirties, 5ft 7ins, bald and had facial stubble with a pronounced moustache. He was wearing a black jumper and baggy orange high vis trousers.

Police are also trying to trace a blue ‘old-looking’ car, described as box-shaped in connection with the same incident.

Investigating officer DC Russell Head explained “The victim is being given all the help and support she needs and our priority is to identify the man and car we’ve issued descriptions of. We believe there may have been key witnesses in the area – specifically a man and a woman, who were in a silver car, which had Disney items in the back. They were parked near to where the incident happened.”
