Court appearance for assaulting PCSO
A Somerset man is due to appear in court in Yeovil this week, charged with assaulting a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO). Ryan Thrower, aged 34, of The Beckery in Glastonbury was arrested on 31st July following reports of a public order in High Street in Glastonbury at about 4pm.
He was charged with two counts of threatening behaviour and causing harassment, alarm and distress as well as assaulting a PCSO. He is due to appear at South Somerset Magistrates Court in Yeovil on Thursday 30th August.
Neighbourhood sergeant Matthew Slade told us “We are aware of concerns about anti-social behaviour in Glastonbury and are working with our partner agencies to deal with them. I would always encourage the public to report anti-social behaviour incidents, which we take seriously and will always endeavour to attend.”
PCSOs increasingly find themselves on the frontline as the number of Police Officers declines. This case is a timely reminder that they are just as much in the line of fire and exposed to significant risks in their line of duty, for which we all have cause to be grateful.
