Langport River Project update
This is the full version of the piece that will appear in the Langport edition of our papers later this week.
Langport Town Council, with its partners, is proud to announce that its first round application for almost £200,000 worth of funding for ‘tourism infrastructure’ has been accepted.
The River Project now includes a 500 metre all weather boardwalk, with shelters, between Cocklemoor and Black Bridge. No more squelching through deep mud! New accessible fishing platforms will be provided for disabled anglers, steps for canoeists, more riverside picnic tables and play equipment for families, bird hides and information boards for nature lovers and more. All this in addition to the pontoons at various points along the riverbank, as planned in the earlier application.
The next stage in the application process involves a considerable amount of work for which the council is calling on everybody to contribute. The funders have to be convinced that Langport really needs this boost to its community and its economy. Through the summer, the council will be inviting you to come to focus groups, fill in surveys, vote, write letters of support and anything else you can think of to help persuade those allocating the money that Langport is the best place for it to go!
Results of the full application will be known at the end of the year.
