Bridgwater Post Office to close
In a surprise announcement it was confirmed today that the main Bridgwater Post Office is to close on Friday. After months of rumours of closure, the announcement that the Post Office would close on Friday, without any alternative provision being put in place, was something of a blow.
On behalf of Sedgemoor District Council, the Leader Duncan McGinty released a statement as follows “I am extremely disappointed to learn today that the Post Office in Bridgwater town centre is to cease trading this week, on Friday 4th May 2018. The operation and availability of a post office in the town centre of Bridgwater is vital and it would not be in the community interest to be without such a facility. Bridgwater is an increasingly prosperous and growing town and the Post Office is essential and well used by members of the local community.”
The Leveller understands that both the District Council and local MP Ian Liddell-Grainger are working with the Post Office to ensure that an acceptable solution for the town is found as quickly as possible.
