Somerset health system update

Following the severe weather conditions last week this update was issued this evening to update the public on the state of service at Musgorve Park Hospital in Taunton.

Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital is continuing to manage with exceptionally high levels of demand. The hospital currently has many patients awaiting discharge home or transfer to community hospitals after patient transport services were disrupted by the snow fall.

All outpatient appointments are going ahead as normal today so, if it is safe for people to travel, we’d ask that they come in for their appointment as normal. If they are unable to make it, we’d ask that they let us know by ringing the number on their appointment letter.

As per usual, we will contact any patients whose appointments or routine surgery may need to be cancelled.”

You can help by thinking of the following:

Please self-care where possible, access online health information from NHS Choices (www.nhs.uk), visit a community pharmacy or telephone NHS 111 for help.

If you have an urgent need for medical treatment they can also visit a community hospital Minor Injuries Unit. There are Minor Injuries Units in Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea, Chard, Frome, Minehead, Shepton Mallet and West Mendip Hospital (Near Glastonbury).

Details of the Minor Injuries Units opening hours are available online:  http://www.sompar.nhs.uk/what-we-do/community-hospitals/minor-injury-units/ or by calling NHS 111 (the number is free to call from mobiles or your home telephone)
