Yeovil Western Corridor drop-in centre
The multi million pound development scheme to improve the Yeovil “Western Corridor” is getting under way. The scheme running up from the Westlands Airfield past Huish Park and up to the new developments on the north west of the town will include improvements to increase the capacity of several junctions and upgrade links for pedestrians and cyclists. It will also support the delivery of more than 1,500 homes and 20 hectares of employment land nearby.
As with any development on this scale, there are bound to be questions and with that in mind contractor Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd have set up a Project Information Centre (PIC) at Palmers Garden Centre. This will be open every Tuesday between 1.30pm and 5.30pm, except for Boxing Day.
Anyone with a question about the scheme can meet with the contractor, Public Liaison Officer Rosemarie Harrod will be on hand to answer. The public will also be able to view the scheme drawings and receive up to date information on progress.
The majority of work so far has taken place off the carriageway to minimise traffic disruption on the main routes into Yeovil during the run-up to Christmas.
Works continue on the cycleway off Stourton Way and some of the islands have been removed on the Bluebell Roundabout. In January, there will be further work on the Bluebell Roundabout which will have some impact on pedestrian routes through the junction. There will also be temporary lights on Watercombe Lane from 3-5 January to install services to the site depot.
