SSDC executive dies suddenly
It was announced today that South Somerset District Council executive Ian Clarke died suddenly at the weekend. Chief Executive, Alex Parmley, told us “Ian was a long serving and senior member of the team with over 30 years length of service who had shown so much loyalty and commitment to SSDC. But more than that, he was both an excellent colleague and friend to so many in the organisation, having supported Members and staff, and always with such professionalism and a tinge of dry humour. He will be deeply missed by everyone at SSDC. Our thoughts are with his family at this challenging time.”
Leader of the Council, Ric Pallister, added “Ian’s passing is devastating news for South Somerset and most especially his family. Ian was our “Wise Owl”, always providing sage advice that safeguarded the interests of the Council and the communities of South Somerset. I will miss him a great deal and so will all Members and staff. Our prayers are with his family whom we have offered all the support we can.”
Ian Clarke joined SSDC in 1987 and held the posts of Group Manager – Legal Services, Head of Legal & Democratic Services, Assistant Director – Legal & Corporate Services, and more recently Director of Support Services. He was also the Council’s Monitoring Officer, Solicitor to the Council and Returning Officer for all Elections.
