Fire risk update from Taunton Deane

Taunton Deane Borough Council’s Tenant Services Management Board (TSMB) was given an update on fire safety risk assessments at its most recent meeting. The Borough Council, unlike many District Councils, still owns a substantial social housing stock. Following the Grenfell Tower tragedy in London fire safety is obviously at the forefront of everyone’s minds.

Whilst Taunton Deane Borough Council does not own any “high rise” housing blocks above four storeys, that does not mean social housing tenants do not have concerns about fire safety. With that in mind all blocks of flats have had fire risk assessments refreshed following the London tower block fire and, it has now been reconfirmed that no significant issues have been found – something we thought you might like to know.

We want to reassure our tenants that we take their safety very seriously. The risk assessments help to provide that reassurance and underline that we comply with the relevant regulations,” said Cllr Terry Beale, Executive member for housing services.
