Livestock theft in Somerton foiled

Police have confirmed today that an attempted livestock theft at Somerton last week was foiled. The would be victim had fitted an alarm to his gates and fences last year. The farmer had previously been a victim of livestock theft.

When the alarm was triggered the thieves  were still rounding up the flock in what turned out to be a stolen Land Rover and trailer. When the farmer and colleagues arrived the thieves tried to escape but eventually abandoned both vehicles. In a statement the Police noted that “The sheep had been previously roaming in the field but had been corralled into the far corner by the offenders and the land rover and trailer had been positioned ready to load the sheep. However, in this case it does go to show that these crime prevention methods and security equipment can be highly effective.”
